Yori

An Omakase-Inspired Sailing Yacht

University project - University of Genoa - 2026

The Project

Yori is a cruising sailing yacht developed around the meeting point between sailing and Japanese gastronomic culture. The project was conceived to offer a two-day onboard experience in which hull, deck, and interior spaces work as a single system, connecting function, atmosphere, and the marine landscape.

The choice of sailing introduces a slower and more mindful way of travelling, strengthening the relationship with the sea and shaping the organization of the spaces.

Designed for up to six guests, Yori combines the experience of sailing with the philosophy of omakase, making the dining experience the central moment of life on board.

Concept

The concept of Yori is inspired by the philosophy of omakase, a Japanese dining experience based on trust, ritual, and the progressive discovery of each course. This idea is translated into the project as a broader approach to the onboard experience, inviting guests to slow down, observe, and fully engage with the moment.

Sailing and omakase are connected by a shared sense of trust and awareness: trust in the chef, in the yacht, and in the natural rhythm of the sea. Yori brings these elements together to create an intimate and carefully curated experience, where sailing, gastronomy, and the surrounding landscape become part of the same narrative.

Brand

Yori is a name of Japanese origin that evokes the ideas of trust and reliance, two concepts at the core of the project. In the omakase experience, guests place their trust in the chef and in the sequence he creates; within a nautical context, this same idea extends to the relationship with the yacht and the sea.

The name therefore expresses this dual sense of trust while remaining short, essential, and internationally recognizable.

The logo develops this identity through the reinterpretation of a Japanese ideogram, combined with the stylized figure of a carp. The symbol reinforces the connection to Japanese culture while introducing themes of perseverance, movement, and the relationship with water.
